Research Seminar

Seminar1The Durham Catholic Theology Research Seminar is an occasional forum (3 meetings per term) for scholarly discussion of pertinent issues in the Catholic traditions of theology and Church. It draws together people with specialist interests across the traditional theological disciplines (scriptural, historical, philosophical, systematic, liturgical, ethical and practical/pastoral) Seminar2and social-scientific approaches. Staff and students of the Department of Theology & Religion join with staff and students of the Colleges (St Chad’s, St John’s and Ushaw) and others with a shared commitment to the critical exploration of Catholic theology and practice. The general format is that of either ‘work-in-progress’ or finished papers by seminar members, sometimes circulated in advance, followed by discussion, with the possibility also of occasional visiting speakers. In addition, some sessions focus on a particular text that seminar members commit to reading in advance. Should you wish to offer a paper, please make this known to Marcus Pound. The group gathers for refreshments at 5.00pm. The seminars themselves start promptly at 5.15pm and close by 6.45pm at the latest with the option of dining together afterwards at a local restaurant.

Full Details of the Program for the current year can be found below; archives of previous seminar schedules can accessed through the links to the right. You can also join the mailing list to receive notification of upcoming seminars.
