This year the International Centenary Symposium on the Mariology of Blessed John Duns Scotus is to be held at Grey College, Durham University, from the 9th-11th September. The program includes 12 of the most notable figures in Scotist theology and Mariology from around the world and is hosted by the Franciscans of the Immaculate, Seminarium Theologicum “Immaculata Mediatrix”. The evening of Thursday 8th May, 2007, saw the formal opening of the Durham Centre for Catholic Studies and the Bede Chair of Catholic Theology. The event marked the beginning of a short international conference, 8- 10th May, on the theme ‘Catholic Theology and the Public Academy’. The whole event will included free public lectures by Prof. David Ford, University of Cambridge, and Fenwick Lawson, Associate of the Royal College of Art; celebratory dinners in St Chad’s College and the Cathedral Undercroft; and other apeakers including: Tina Beattie, Gavin D’Costa, Eamon Duffy, David Ford, Paul Griffiths, Karen Kilby, Michael Kirwan, S.J., Paul Lakeland, Nicholas Lash, Gerard Loughlin, Andrew Louth, John Milbank, Francesca Murphy, Paul D Murray, Peter Phillips, Marcus Pound.
